Alexander McQueen dresses have always evoked strong emotions from the public. Either she is perplexed by the choice of an extremely inconvenient location for the show, then she falls into ecstasy from the beauty of the collection and the podium scenery. Even when the age of the designer approached the fifth decade, in the press his name was invariably accompanied by the postscript “enfant terrible”. Yet despite his permanent bad boy image, he has won all sorts of major fashion awards in London and was even awarded the Legion of Honor in 2003.
The stage director was McQueen's second ego — romantic corset silhouettes, stunning tunics of feathers and fresh flowers — all accompanied by jewelery attention to detail and tailoring.
McQueen was born in 1969 in the East End, England, the son of a London taxi driver. At the age of 16, he began an internship as a tailor at the famous Saville Row, where, according to legend, he painted obscenities on fabric intended for the Prince of Wales. After a short stint in Milan as a cutter for Romeo Gigli, McQueen entered Central College of Art and Design St. Martin.
In 1994, his graduation collection came to the attention of the late stylist Isabella Blow, who bought it for $ 7,750 and became his most ardent fan.
The following year, McQueen cemented his rising star success with his tufted Highland Rape, which featured ragged dresses on bloody models and his iconic trousers with a waist that had been dropped so much to reveal an intriguing back view.
In 1996, Givenchy fashion house recruited McQueen to the post of chief designer. His tenure in this post was extremely productive, but nevertheless short-lived: it ended in 2001, and after a few months the group Gucci bought out 51 percent of the designer's company.
The McQueen brand gradually began to produce men's clothing, accessories, perfume lines and eyewear, which led to the creation of a subsidiary brand McQ in 2006.
